...and replace it with a Dept of Public Safety which could include ahemm "Peace Officers"

City Question 2

Department of Public Safety

Shall the Minneapolis City Charter be amended to remove the Police Department and replace it with a Department of Public Safety that employs a comprehensive public health approach to the delivery of functions by the Department of Public Safety, with those specific functions to be determined by the Mayor and City Council by ordinance; which will not be subject to exclusive mayoral power over its establishment, maintenance, and command; and which could include licensed peace officers (police officers), if necessary, to fulfill its responsibilities for public safety, with the general nature of the amendments being briefly indicated in the explanatory note below, which is made a part of this ballot?

YES ______

NO ______

Explanatory Note:

This amendment would create a Department of Public Safety combining public safety functions through a comprehensive public health approach to be determined by the Mayor and Council. The department would be led by a Commissioner nominated by the Mayor and appointed by the Council. The Police Department, and its chief, would be removed from the City Charter. The Public Safety Department could include police officers, but the minimum funding requirement would be eliminated.

Martial Law would be declared within one year, if this madness actually happens.

Is that the smart, educated, successful vote that the lying libtard media tells their libtarded base they control?

One of the fine liberal ideas to percolate from the know nothing class taking over one of the two major political parties in our country.

Minneapolis just a 2nd rate city, they aren't on the forefront of the cutting edge issues and transformative change like a 1st class city

This had me laughing for a good 5 minutes

I read the Globe every day.

Everything they write is drained through the sick collander of liberalism. Diversity. Social justice. Skin color. Ethnicity. Corona fear. etc etc

very disappointing...was looking forward to seeing Minneapolis look like downtown Mogadishu by Super Bowl weekend

how about this for a backlash? not only did this ballot measure fail miserably but the City Council that pushed for it just had their powers drastically pulled from them in a separate ballot vote with certain powers now going to the Mayor, not the Council. Two of the council members that supported abolishing the police lost their seats last night while 3 more are likely to lose the vote today.

Of course we know they won't learn because radical Marxists never stop pushing their ideology

Good news but still, nationally, big city citizens are not being protected adequately from violent crime, police are underpaid, undermanned, not supported by the politicians, are reluctant to deal with a violent criminal, won't even pursue criminals in cars and even on foot in some cities.

Citizens fear that if they retaliate against violent thugs, they will be arrested, not the thugs.

Who wants to be an entry level policeman, these days? Pay is crap, risk is enormous.

"say it with me" :mad0012:

Vice chair of Minnesota Democrat Party who advocated for dismantling police gets violently beaten and carjacked

She now calls for law and order and wants to take her city back.

Sathanandan said in a Facebook post that she suffered a broken leg, deep lacerations to her head, and cuts and bruises all over her body when four armed juveniles allegedly beat her to the ground in front of her children and then stole her vehicle in broad daylight

More than three years after George Floyd’s death at the hands of police, it is clear that Minneapolis allowed the Black Lives Matter movement to destroy it. Was it all really worth it?

Minneapolis’s police staffing shortage has now reached an all-time low, with just 585 officers on the job. For reference, the city had 888 officers in 2019

Violent crime is still up 11% compared to the five-year average before 2020, and the city’s 260 gunshot victims through the first eight months of the year is higher than any recorded number before 2020.
